mothers2mothers (m2m) Send it South is assisting mothers2mothers (m2m) - an NGO dedicated to educating and supporting pregnant women and new mothers living with HIV/AIDS in Africa - with documenting and streamlining their business processes. This involves supporting Serenic Navigator, the world’s leading financial management solution for NFPs/NGOs.
We are facilitating the setup and creation of board and funder reports, as well as bedding down the procurement to payment process. Our next step is to set up and support additional countries (Zambia, Malawi and Uganda). We also make use of Serenic’s replication tool enabling information gathered in decentralised or remote locations to be reported on at Head Office. The multi-currency module works really well for the various locations and currencies m2m needs to accommodate.
m2m initiated the partnership between Send it South and Serenic Corporation. Their experience of our competencies and professionalism prompted them to recommend Send it South as the ideal partner for Serenic in South Africa.

Yell.com

Yell.com required a Mobile Order Capture System to enable its 1500-strong sales force to produce orders in front of clients with no network available.

Send it South’s Simon Noon and his team developed a system to download extracted SAP data into an MS access database. This was then manipulated using a VB6 application, before being uploaded directly to SAP using SAP Remote Function Calls. There is also a series of SQL Server databases (one database for each of the SAP systems - e.g. Development, Test, Live) used to configure the systems (e.g. holds field mappings, release version information).

While the technologies used were basic by today’s standards, the project presented its own challenges. For example, close coordination with the SAP designers and developers and a good understanding of how Sap works was required to ensure the application acted like a mobile version of SAP.

Platform: Windows XP;

Technologies: VB 6.0, MS Access, MS SQL Server, SAP, Crystal Reports, Janus GridEx

Yell.com

Yell.com required a Service Monitor to monitor a schedule application, and to automatically restart it if the process was terminated by anything other than the user.

The solution consisted of Windows service, two applications (.exe), a class library (.dll) and an installer. The class library was to hold code and instructions common to both the service and the applications. One application was for configuring the service (settings were held in an XML file) and the other for displaying a popup form to show information about unconfigured services. The installer was to install the application as a whole and register the service.

Instead of running under the “local System” account (required for a service to interact with the desktop) this service needed to appear as if running as the logged on user. So the service needed to “impersonate” the current user before browsing folders and creating processes. As version 1.1 of the .NET framework does not support the passing of the user credentials to the process class, Windows APIs were used.

Platform: Windows Server 2003

.NET Framework Version: 1.1

Technologies: VB.NET (2003)
